Pinefolly
Farms has as its inspiration that love of things old and
original that attracts us to log homes, heirloom gardens, and the
preservation of rare antiquities, including horseflesh.
Nestled in the hill country of southwestern Bedford County, our two
farms provide us the opportunity to continue a husband and wife
breeding program that had its origins over thirty years ago. |
Our breeding program began in the seventies
on a rocky, wooded fifty acre farm near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, with a
golden sorrel stallion registered as
Rip 650850, better known as The Old Ripsnorter or Old Snort.
Rip represented all that had been the best within the flatshod show
walkers in the glory days of the thirties and forties. Standing
about 16.2 hands barefoot, Rip traveled in a true, square walking
rhythm, no swing to his gait but with a natural three foot overstride in
both flatwalk and running walk. When asked to canter, Snort
quickly picked up a lope to make any western rider proud, yet a flex of
the rider's fingers on the reins would produce the rocking chair show
canter that some judges continue to prefer in competition. Always
the perfect gentleman in ground manners, Rip followed his handler's
commands whether a man or a petite woman held his lead. When we
look for potential mates for our mares, we look for stallions possessing
the same of the traits that Snort displayed.
Old Rip is gone now, his genetic legacy of
Miller's Wilson Allen, Midnight Sun, and Sam Allen breeding bequeathed
to those few granddaughters and great-granddaughters descended from
mares by him that survived the depressed pleasure market of the late
seventies.

At Pinefolly Farms, one
Rip granddaughter remains from his heritage.
Tanasi Gold, a mare by Red Bud's Rascal, displays the
natural, timed-up walk of her grandsire and dam, with an extensive
head nod. She is intelligent and sensible, passing these
traits along with her color to her only foal. Plans for Tanasi
Gold include trail riding and perhaps more competition at
some of the PWHAT sound circuit horse shows. |

Curry's Beauty, our daughter's black mare a 1984 daughter of a Mack K's Handshaker/ Merry Go Boy stallion
preserves a rare genetic treasure from her dam. Cotton Ginner's
Beauty was a daughter of 1948 World Champion Stallion, Any Age Locke's
Cotton Ginner. This Cotton Ginner daughter was linebred to
Aristocratic Allen, a flax sorrel Hall Allen son that stood in Lawrence
County, Tennessee, in the thirties. Curry's Beauty has
raised several foals.

Our homebred broodmare
Red Bud Lady Scarlet, presented us with a lovely
buttermilk buckskin filly Lady's Got The Gold in 2004. Her 2003 grey filly
Sterlings Jolie Allure by Bullet.
Scarlet Star Wilson has a loose striding walking gait and balanced canter
proving that crossing a Heritage TWH stallion with a smooth walking
and sensible Heritage trail mare produces the best of all possible
worlds.
In addition to our ladies,
Pinefolly Farms owns a black trail gelding sired by the popular local
stallion Mark's Crackerjack.
Mark's Little Jack has done everything except compete in the
show ring. He seems to enjoy babysitting young horses and he does
exceptionally well as a child's lesson horse. |
